# The US is voting: in Europe, we need to steer our future.

America will make its democratic choices today in the midterms. While decisions made across the Atlantic will impact us here in Europe, what matters even more are the choices we make here at home.

We need to steer our future and focus on what matters to us. We need a Europe that can keep us safe, create opportunities and help us build our own future. A Europe that invests in new technologies, builds strong businesses, creates good jobs, provides homes and stays competitive in an uncertain world. A Europe that takes our security seriously and has the strength to defend our interests when needed. Europe is home to world-class universities, innovative companies, talented people and the largest single market in the world. Democracy, freedom and the rule of law are our strengths. We have everything we need to succeed. Europeans are stronger when we act together.

"As Americans cast their votes today and decide the future course of their country, we in Europe need to stay focused on shaping our future and the critical issues we face here at home. Europe must be more united, more self-reliant and more ambitious if we want to address the threats and challenges we face. We have the talent, the resources and the strengths needed to shape our own lives in the years to come. To turn those strengths into growth, technological leadership and greater security for all Europeans, we need European political parties that overcome the national divisions that hold Europe back.”
